Write a review for the NetGear DG834G Wireless BT ADSL Modem/Router & Firewall 802.11g here!
I bought one of these to enable my ipaq to work at home along side my PC. I have a 1meg ADSL connection from BT, which using their modem works fine. Using this router its a nightmare!! very easy to setup. it just keeps dropping the adsl connection every 5 to 10 minutes, alongside the network connection to the PC as well as the Wireless connection to the ipaq. At work i use 3com wireless hubs, and they will work all day without dropping the connection to either my ipaq or PC's i have here. i can vpn to my office from my PC, i just have to be quick with whatever i do. It reconnects after about a minute or 2, but why oh why does it have to keep dropping its connections.
I repeat DO NOT BUY this device. Ignore other positive reviews and believe me that if you use the internet for anything other than checking your email once a month this unit will give you AGONY! - Things start out OK, and then get a bit flaky and when my line was upgraded to 2MB really went down hill. First the wireless functionality goes - it gets worse and worse - in the end you loose the ability to connect via wireless ALTOGETHER! Then the line drops every so often - then more and more - now I have three machines all connected via wires and I get 10 minutes max before the connection goes down again - THIS IS MY THIRD UNIT!!! - Netgear don't even bother to ask - they just send me a new one and the same thing happens - they don't even bother to collect the old units - I HAVE 3 of these now! - In fact, if you don't believe me just phone Netgear, tell them you've got one and it's gone wrong and they will probably just send you one!!! This product should be withdrawn - I will never buy
Bought it in Feb 2005, and it worked perfectly - until December. If you get one, don't make my mistake and throw away all the paperwork after a few months, it could die at any time.
