Write a review for the StarTech.com 4 Port Black PS/2 KVM Switch Kit with Cables here!
Very simple 4 way KVM. Comes with all the leads - each cable splits into three for the PS/2-style mouse and keyboard and VGA video card. I run all my PCs at 1600x1200 and they work fine. No drivers to install, no power cable or batteries required. Very easy. Nice.
great product. no psu required to drive this. Setup took all of 20 seconds. Control by either CTRL x 3 + 1,2,3 or 4. Very easy to use. Picture quality is excellent, highly recommended
This KVM is really worth every penny, as despite the relatively low price it offers a working KVM. The picture shows no loss of quality, and the 3 in 1 cable system is a bliss. The only con is that hitting ctrl twice, followed by a number between 1 and 4 can switch to another PC. This behavior cannot be changed, and even if you only hit ctrl twice, not followed by a number, the third press of ctrl will not be registered, being frustrating when copying and pasting. Still. Good value for money.
Yes, as every one has said:
It looks good, it's easy to use and works well - but..
Don't try to use it with a wireless keyboard & mouse!
Startech say that none of their KVM switches are designed for this as these devices take considerably more power than the wired versions.
Using the optional power supply will not fix the problem as this only powers the box.
So if you don't mind wires, yes it's great - but if like me you prefer wireless then think again...
This is a good KVM switch, but it is let down by two things. The most annoying is that switching between computers can be done with the keyboard (and this feature can not be disabled), which assumes that the user will not press the key combination ('control' pressed twice followed a one of the numbers from one to four) by mistake, which I have done many times. Additionally, there is only one button on the switch, requiring the user to cycle through the outputs, instead of there being a button for each output.
However, the cabling system used is very good at preventing cables tangling up.
Its a neat little box and mostly worked fine, the combined cables certainly do keep cable clutter to a minimum.
However, i did find that one port didnt always respond, sometimes i had to reboot that computer for it to work. Also if you have a widescreen this is not the KVM for you as its not supported!
