Write a review for the Belkin Network USB Hub here!
At last!! A product to share USB devices between PCs with no problems. Thank you sooo much Belkin (and Dabs for their usual speedy delivery!) This really is a joy to have although a few things you should be aware of. 1. The network cable that comes with it is only 2 foot or 61cm long 2. the power lead is only about 3 foot long 3. Install the printer drivers and hub software on each PC before connecting to the hub Minor points for a brilliant product. I would also advise downloading the latest driver for it from the Belkin website.
Just installed this sweety in our office on 1 PC and two laptops, both connected via docks / ethernet and hooking up 3 shared printers.
HP Deskjet Pro 550
Kyocera KM1635 copier / printer
Dymo label printer (which tends to be a bit tricky to set up)
The thing that took longest was unravelling the maze of USB cables for the printers. Took about 30 minutes in total. Ran first time, no glitches.
TOP TIPS: follow the idiot's guide to the letter, in particular watch for 3rd party firewall instructions during install and choose correct configuration method for sharing / not sharing. Make sure software is on each machine before connecting to the network.
Was a tad pricy but there ain't much in the market to do the job and this does it superbly!
Just bought one of these a few days ago and was amazed at the simplicity of the setup. I work in IT and expected I'd have to use some of my IT skills to get things up and running, but no, it was so simple and everything simply worked once the software was installed.
I've a 1TB seagate external drive, an Epson laser printer and an Epson injet printer connected so far and have now access from all 3 computers. Excellent job!
I have owned this for six weeks now without any major issues.
Connected to its ports I have
A 500gb Buffalo USB2 external HDD.
10gb 2.5" Portable HDD
Canon i9950 printer.
HP PSC multiprinter.
Creative Zen MP3.
USB Memory Key.
The Hub is connected to an eight port 100mbps switch which runs to my wireless gear and ADSL router.
I installed the software on all PC's and laptops and they can all use the resources available from the hub. The transfer rate from the external HDD's is about 25mbps. The slow speed is well out balanced by the convinence of having everything in one place from any PC or laptop on the LAN.
The software has a few minor error. Sometimes when shutting down a PC it assumes you still have USB items attached and will ask you to disconnect before shut down happens, clicking "End Now" dose the job.
Absolutely brilliant, instant connect, works with my Hp multi printer, despite throwing up usb hub power warning, ignore it and everything works, even a cheap tesco webcam, only downside the WD passport drive I bought to use with it doesnt. loaded software on wifes laptop, again instant connection. well done Belkin again.
i had great problems with my printer as most normal print servers do not work with my printer. this works perfect. i also have connected a hard drive to it for network shared files.
Easy to get working and works well. Be aware that they do warn it may not work with some devices like TV tuners, webcams, and USB audio devices.
I purchased this to run two USB 500Gb backup drives in preference to a NAS device. My reasoning: I backup to one one day and the other the next. That way if anything goes wrong with any piece of hardware between the PC & USB drive I can always plug one of the drives directly into another PC. It seems more flexible than NAS.
My only niggle is that the cable on the mains adapter is 1m long it could do with being a bit longer. The network cable is 600mm long.
Is this device compatible with the PS3. That is, the PS3 can see Window Media Player 11 as a media server, but can it see this as a media server???
A great product and simple to install but check that your printer will work with it before buying. I bought my hub specifically to share an, admittedly ageing, Lexmark X75 but unfortunately it doesn't work. The hub "sees" the printer and connects to it but any print command from the PC simply gets a "cannot communicate" message from the Lexmark software. Lexmark confirms that the X75 cannot be networked so now I am in the market for a printer that can.
Does this work with linux?
