Thanks to its low media cost per TB, LTO7 is the perfect solution to store large amounts of archival data in the long term. With its high capacity, the cartridge is designed to retain its archival quality for many years supported by Sony's technology in magnetic tape production.
Enhanced coating technology for higher recording density
Enhanced coating technology features a smoother film tape surface and enables narrower tracks to be written and read accurately, resulting in higher recording density.
Improved reel structure to enhance tape to head interface
Reel design was enhanced to realize the same level of stability at high-speed tape running as for LTO6.
Tape design for high durability and high reliability
Sony's technology expertise and extensive history in developing media and professional tape formats contribute to high durability and high reliability of LTO7 media.
LTFS (Linear Tape File System)
The Linear Tape File System (LTFS) makes viewing and accessing tape files easier than ever before. LTFS works in conjunction with LTO tape technology for ease of use and portability for open systems tape storage. With LTFS, one partition holds the content and the other holds the content's index, so the tape can be self-describing to improve archive management. With the operating system's graphical file manager and directory tree, utilizing data on an LTO Ultrium tape cartridge is as easy as dragging and dropping the file.
