Belkin Broadband Powerline (BPL) Products Radio Interference Concerns

Belkin provides the worldwide market with broadband powerline solutions to their
network distribution needs. In the European Union Belkin has introduced several
products in this category. These products are subject to numerous regulations which
restricts their electromagnetic compatibility profile, product safety, energy usage, and
environmental concerns. Belkin has been diligent in meeting the directives of the
European Union before placing their product on the market. Belkin is in full compliance
with these regulations and marks their products with the CE mark as notification of their
compliance. A copy of our Declaration of Conformity can be viewed at:

Radio Amateurs and shortwave listeners have indicated a concern with this BPL
technology because the inherent technology might be a possible source of
electromagnetic noise in the high frequency (HF) and the very high frequency (VHF)
broadcast regions. To minimize the potential of radio interference, the European Union
has CE marking Directives requiring these type products to meet the EMC Directive
(2004/108/EC).

In compliance with this directive Belkin tests its products to EN55022, the European
Norm for radiated and conducted emissions. This testing is done under controlled
laboratory conditions by third party independent ISO 17025 accredited laboratories
recognized by the European Union. With a positive result from the testing Belkin
prepares a Declaration of Conformity and places the CE mark on their product.

Interference potential for BPL products is related to their actual usage and location.
This probability has been addressed by OFCOM, in the UK and by the European
Commission. More details can be obtained from the OFCOM official website at:
