Why I don't care what time or channel a TV film or series is on.
I rarely seem to get the time to sit down and watch live TV and so tend to miss a lot of the things I would have liked to have seen. I had watched a lot of programmes on BBC iPlayer, but it wasn't really a good experience compared to watching on the TV in the living room, a small picture and tinny sound wasn't good at all, but at least I got to see what I wanted.
I had looked at getting a satellite or cable TV package with a hard disk based PVR, but the subscription charges were more than I could really justify, I just wanted my PC internet content on my TV. After a lot of internet research, I discovered Boxee Box, a small, quiet, good looking box that would allow me to watch a wealth of internet video as well as BBC iPlayer on my TV. All that was required was an HDMI cable to my TV, a CAT5 cable to my router and to plug in the mains cable, it is super easy to use with a lot more content than I ever thought possible.
All the iPlayer catchup TV is available as well as super geeky "channels" like The Engadget Show and TED Talks, and all that content is easy to find as its searchable from the supplied QWERTY double sided remote, all from the comfort of my sofa, with my big screen and decent sound through the TV speakers, I might add a surround sound amplifier soon, just to add to the fun.
