Why I don't use CD's anymore.

It's not that I have millions of CD's, it's just that the one that I want never seems to be where I am. I listen to music pretty much constantly as I get on with other stuff around the home and so I have CD players in the car, the living room, the kitchen and in my home office where I listen to music as I do my online shopping or just generally surf the web. I constantly found that my CD's were scattered between these four locations.

I hated the constant CD case avalanches on my office desk and the kitchen counter and I had also managed to scratch a few CD's beyond repair in the car and smashed more CD cases in the glovebox than I care to remember. Having an iPhone, I had of course heard of iTunes, but never used it as there was always a CD player wherever I needed music. Then I thought if I just using iTunes on my office PC there would be one less location to search when looking for that CD I really wanted to listen to. Ripping all my CD's to iTunes was simple. Put the CD in the computer, wait 5 minutes or so until the computer ejected the disk and then I would swap it for the next one, I did this while I was browsing the internet and was surprised how effortless it was.

I could now listen to any tune I owned on my computer without searching for discs anywhere and now I had this convenient facility, I wanted it everywhere, especially the car. I put my favourite albums on my iPhone using iTunes and the cable that came with the phone and bought a cable to connect my iPhone the car stereo which had an iPod input, I now had hours of music with me in the car and didn't have to change CD's at traffic lights anymore!

The next room to tackle was the kitchen, so I found a stereo system with an iPod docking station on top for my iPhone, simple room filling sound that even had a remote control. I already had a decent amplifier and speakers in the living room, so a simple dock that connected my iPhone to my amplifier was all that was needed, this also came with a remote, so I can change tracks and the volume whilst I lie on the sofa, well I can when I've boxed up all my CD's and put them in the attic .
