Wired and Wireless Routers
Most routers these days have a wireless access point built-in meaning that there is no need to purchase one separately. The router gets you online whilst the wireless access point lets you connect devices to it without the need for wires. This is perfect for example if you want to sit on the sofa surfing the internet or if you want to use your iPod to surf the internet.
Most wireless networks these days operate on 'g' band which gives a theoretical maximum data rate of 54mbps and a distance (or reach) of 125 feet. If you're looking for the fastest speed and the greatest reach then you need to be looking at routers with the latest technology which is the standard 'n'.

Switches
If you're looking to connect multiple network devices together throughout the home, you'll usually find that a switch gives you a faster connection between the devices than using a router on it's own as most switches run 10 times faster than the ports usually found on the back of routers. Switches are also a great way of expanding the number of static devices (i.e wired) that can be connected by increasing the number of ports available. Most standard home routers feature 4 ports which can be quickly used up in a house filled with gadgets so a switch is ideal for giving you more connections or to save the effort of running many cables to your (usually inconveniently located) router, cable everything to a more centrally located switch, then just run a single cable to your router to provide internet access to all the devices on the switch.

Adaptors
Adaptors connect you to your wireless n network with supercharged speed and reliability. Experience up to 12x the speed and 4x the coverage of a wireless g connection. Setup is always a breeze with one-touch Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) technology. Advanced wireless encryption protects your valuable data. Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) Quality of Service (QoS) prioritizes important video, audio and gaming traffic. Seamlessly stream video, download files, play games and talk online with these wireless n adaptors.

Powerline
Use any electrical outlet to create a secure high speed network. These adapters will automatically connect to other TRENDnet Powerline AV adapters with no installation required—TRENDnet recommends pressing the ‘Sync’ button to automatically change default encryption keys. Power Save mode reduces electrical consumption by up to 80%. Quality of Service technology prioritizes video, audio, and online gaming. LED displays convey device and port status for easy troubleshooting. Advanced AES encryption secures your network. This adapter is ideal for use in buildings that interfere with wireless networking signals.
